Friday Night Lights again in the spotlight

MARYSVILLE – Friday Night Lights at Quil Ceda Stadium can only mean one thing – high school football.

Marysville-Pilchuck and Marysville Getchell share the field. They will be playing each other Sept. 22 in the annual Berry Bowl in Class 3A action.

Prep football is always an exciting time. Community members come out and watch students perform in the marching band, as cheerleaders, and, of course, on the gridiron. Watching the student body also can be entertaining with some of their antics.

On Sept. 15, the hometown Tomahawks were taking on the Squalicum Storm, one of the favorites to win the Wesco League North, along with Ferndale.

The visitors came out ahead 38-28, dropping M-P to 1-2. The Tommies had split their games so far this year, beating Lynnwood 49-0 but losing to Snohomish 38-22.

MG has lost to Lake Washington 44-25 and to Mariner 35-6, going into last night’s game against Arlington. They lost to the Eagles 54-14, dropping MG to 3-0, while Arlington improved to 3-0. The Eagles also beat Redmond 26-13 and then ended a long Lake Stevens winning streak 54-28. Junior running back Tallen Williams scored three times in the win.

Lakewood, which is 2A, beat Clover Park 42-0, but lost to Lord Tweedsmuir 47-28. It played Sehome last night and won 41-6 with senior quarterback Austin Lane passing for four touchdowns.

Tulalip Heritage is 1-0 in Class 1B.
