Lakewood speedster wins 2 district titles going into state

LAKEWOOD – Cougar speedster Michai Harris won two District 1-2 2A track titles Friday.

Harris won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.3 seconds. Teammate Jordan Gonzalez was seventh.

Harris also won the 200, with a clocking of 22.66 seconds. Teammate junior Kaelin Nelson was seventh.

Junior Ethan Stapleton was the only other Lakewood champ, winning the 2K steeplechase in 7 minutes, 49.88 seconds.

Zachery Anderson was second in the high jump and second in the pole vault, tying with teammate sophomore Kaedyn Bustad.

In the 800, junior Alex Jensen was second.

Junior Spencer Fleming was third in the 400, with Gonzalez fifth.

Their 4 by 400 team was third. It consisted of Gonazlez, Fleming, Daniel Crawford and Jensen. They cut almost two seconds off their prelim time.

Sophomore Keegan Bach was third in the shot put, and teammate William Davis was fifth in the discus.

Lakewood’s 4 by 100 relay team finished fourth. It consisted of Fleming, Harris, Gonzalez and Nelson. Their preliminary time of 43.86 would have won the finale.

For the Lakewood girls, sophomore Torrance Blackwood was second in the steeplechase.

Sophomore Alexis Allen was fifth in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump.

The 4 by 100 relay team was fifth. On it were Allen, Stella Seth, Hannah Primrose and Jasmine Graham.

Junior Bailey Hammond was sixth in the discus.

Freshman Graham was seventh in the 200.

State is this week at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma.
