M-P girl to go to SW Kentucky to play softball

MARYSVILLE – Lily Fischer knows you should always try your best because you never know who is watching.

Fischer, of Marysville-Pilchuck, signed a letter of intent Wednesday to play softball at Murray State in southwest Kentucky.

Fischer said the Racers first showed interest in her when she was a sophomore, playing on a Woodinville select team that had a tournament in Irvine, CA.

She said they came there to watch another player.

Fischer remembered it was her birthday, and she hit a home run her first time up. They said they would come watch her the next day.

Fischer started playing when she was 5 with T-ball. At 6 she played Little League, and by 7 she was on a select team. The third baseball started taking the game seriously when she was 12, and started thinking she might be able to play in college because of her “love of the game.”

Fischer went to the school last summer, looked around, talked to some players and coaches. It’s a small community, so she thinks it’s a “good fit.”

She said she had thought about playing at Western Washington University in Bellingham since it’s close to home. “But I can’t be afraid of going away,” she said.
