M-P guards score from all over in win over MG

MARYSVILLE – Luke Dobler and Josiah Gould led Marysville-Pilchuck in beating crosstown rival Marysville Getchell in a high school boys basketball game Saturday 63-38.

M-P, now 4-0, led just 13-12 one period, but Dobler made a nifty pass to Deadon Mongar for two then went coast to coast after grabbing a rebound to help the home team build a 29-22 halftime lead. M-P’s aggressive defense led to one steal after another and one turnover after another.

MG scored just one bucket in the third, at the 4:10 mark when freshman Malakhi Knight connected on an assist to 6-foot-6 junior Lul Williams. M-P only tallied eight itself in the quarter, with Dobler and Josiah Gould each hitting 3’s. Those two each hit 3’s to start the fourth quarter and the route was on. Raequan Battle’s Tomahawk dunk with 4:14 iced the game. Dobler had 18 and Gould 15 to lead the Tommies. Battle recovered quickly from an injury last week to tally 13. MG freshman Malakhi Knight led the Chargers with 12. Other M-P scoring: Kobe Baumann 7, Aaron Kalab 6, Mongar 4. Other MG scoring: Cameron Stordahl 11, William 6, scoring 2 each were Matt Thomas, Ethan Jackson, Ryan King and Travis Barnes with Dylan Rice scoring 1.

In the girls game, as a freshman, Brionna Palm was a standout pitcher on the Marysville Getchell High School softball team.

As a sophomore, she’s showing she can play basketball as well. Palm scored 10 points to lead MG to its first win of the season over cross-town rival Marysville-Pilchuck Saturday. M-P led at the end of the first period 7-6, but MG dominated from there, winning 51-22.

The rest of the Charger scoring saw Alexus Atkins with 9, Madison Hagglund 8, Pilani Tupou with 6, Mylanie Cabrera had 5, Kiki Green and Abby Pfeil with 4 each, Kortney Crane with 3 and Sydney Norton 2.

Miriah Summers led the Tomahawks with eight points. Mary Moses had 5, Lauren Lewis and Hanna Koehn 4 apiece and Mackenzie Konsor scored 1.
