No M’ville swimmers advance to state

SNOHOMISH – Some Marysville swimmers qualified for Saturday’s finals in a number of events at the district tournament here Wednesday and Friday.

Both Marysville Getchell and Marysville-Pilchuck qualfied relay teams.

In the 200-yard medley, M-P was fifth with a time of 1 minute 51.44 seconds. On that relay were Ian Meetsma, Leif Anderson, Jared Edge and Jake Howat.

Both teams qualified for the finals in the 200 free relays.

M-P was sixth in 1:38.28. Edge, Nate Novy, Meetsma and Howat were on that team. MG was ninth in 1:42.62 with Kameron Wilkes, Nicholas Carlson, Micah Brewer and Jesse Nahinu

Both also qualified teams in the 400 free relay.

This time MG did better, placing seventh in 3:52.02. Brewer, Josh Bacon, Carson Mielke, and Wilkes were on that team. M-P was ninth in 3:58.89 with Novy, Wyatt Yarbrough, Ethan Nelson and Anderson.

In individual races, Meetsma was sixth in the 500 free with a clocking of 5:18.03. Nelson of M-P was 25th in 6:38.79.

Meetsma also qualified for the finals in the 100 backstroke, placing eighth in 1:02.32. Four from MG also swam that event with Mielke placing 21st in 1:12.93, Bacon 23rd, Carlson 26th and Nathaniel Faber 28th in 1:28.16.

Howat finished 11th in the 50 free, qualifying for the finals with his time of 24.06. MG teammates Nahinu was 20th and Brewer 24th with Tomahawk Edge 24th in 25.18

In the 100 butterfly, Wilkes placed 12th with his time of 1:00.80, good enough to make the finals. Teammate Nahinu was 17th in 1:03.69.

Howat also made the finals, along with Anderson, in the 100 breaststroke. Howat was ninth in 1:08.05 and Anderson 13th in 1:10.49. Carson St. John of MG also swam in that event, finishing 31st in 1:26.85.

Others swam but did not advance to the finals.

The two local teams had five swimmers in the 100 free. Novy was 22nd in 56.85 seconds, Edge 24th, Bacon and Carlson, both of MG, 26th and 28th, Yarbrough of M-P 29th and Mielke of MG 30th in 1:00.19.

In the 200 free, M-P’s Novy was 23rd in 2:20.69. In the 200 IM, Nelson of M-P was 23rd in 2:35.67.

In the finals Saturday:

•M-P was seventh in the 200 medley, improving their time to 1:50.33. MG was ninth in 1:59.6.

•In the 50 free, Howatt was 13th in 24.01.

•In the 1-meter diving competition, Anderson was eighth with 304 points. Andrew Kallio of M-P was 10th with 300 points. Ben Malaby placed 14th with 242.35 points, Carlos Pineda-Lopez 15th with 241.15 and Nicholas Scharbach was 16th with 225.05 points. All three dive for MG.

•Wilkes placed 12th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1 minute, .88 seconds.

•In the 500 free, Meetma finished seventh with a clocking of 5:18.44. •In the 200 free relay, M-P was sixth in 1:37.71. MG was ninth in 1:41.59.

•Meetsma placed eighth in the 100 back with a time of 1:02.21.

•Howat finished 10th in the 100 breast with a clocking of 1:08.82. Anderson tied for 13th in 1:10.78.

•In the 400-free relay, MG was seventh in 3:48.86 and M-P ninth in 3:51.83.

Only the top four in each went advance to state this weekend in Federal Way.

In team scoring Shorewood won with 406.5 points. M-P placed seven with 123.5 and MG 11th with 71 points.
