Playoff season kicks off tonight

Arlington is the only local team seeded No. 1 as spring sports enter the postseason.

The Eagles baseball team, 17-3, plays at home Saturday at 2 p.m. against the winner of a play-in game Friday night.

Maryville-Pilchuck, which finished third in the Wesco North with an 11-9 record, plays at Shorewood at 2 p.m. Saturday. If the teams win they play next on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Meridian Park Field. If they lose they play at 4 p.m. that day at whichever team is the higher seed.

State is at Safeco Field in Seattle May 20-27.

Marysville Getchell ended its season 3-17 and Lakewood went 1-16.

Soccer

Lakewood’s soccer team finished the year 2-12-2, but the other three local teams are involved in play-in games Friday night.

MG, 6-4-5, is playing at Arlington, 5-10-1, and M-P, 5-8-2, is up against Everett. Winners play Saturday at 2 p.m. against Lynnwood in Edmonds and at 5 p.m. at Snohomish.

Track

Arlington also has the powerhouse local team in track for boys and girls, both finishing with 7-1 records. MG’s girls team went 3-6, while M-P’s was 1-9. For the boys, MG was 2-7 and M-P 2-8. The 3A North meet is May 10 and 12 at Oak Harbor, Districts are at Shoreline May 17 and 19, and state is at Mount Tahoma in Tacoma May 25-27. At the 2A level, Lakewood’s boys went 8-2-4 and the girls 6-3-5. Subdistricts are May 10 and 12 at Civic Field in Everett. Districts are May 17 and 19 at the same location. Lakewood’s girls track team went 6-3-5 and will compete in sub-districts and Districts at Sehome on those same days. And state is the same as the 3A squads.

Golf

All local 3A North teams will compete in golf at 1 p.m. May 8 at Gleneagle in Arlington. Those who advance to Districts will play May 15-16 at Walter Hall in Everett. State is May 23-24 at Columbia Point.

The girls golf teams play May 8 at Kayak Point, May 16-17, also at Kayak Point, and state is at Canyon Lakes May 23-24.

Lakewood’s boys golf team plays May 15-16 at Snohomish, while the girls play their tournament at Skagit.

Tennis

None of the local girls tennis teams finished above .500, with Arlington 7-9, M-P 2-13 and MG 2-14. The North championships will be May 9-10 at Snohomish and Districts are May 16-17 with Arlington hosting.

Lakewood, 2-13, plays May 6-10 in the tournament with Districts being May 15-17.

Softball

Girls softball teams still have games to play before their tournaments.

Lakewood, 12-3, could be playing in the 2A District tourney at Janicki Field May 13-19.

For the 3A teams, the district tournament is May 11-18 at Phil Johnson Fields. M-P is 10-7, MG 7-7 and Arlington 5-13.
