ARLINGTON Arlingtons Judy Hoff aims to make April 30 A New Day for at least 200 women in Snohomish, Skagit and King counties, but she needs aid from the community to make it happen.
Hoff is the pastor of Life Changes Ministry and the cofounder of the Queen Its a New Day event, which provides a no-cost day of beauty makeovers, catered meals, and career and personal encouragement to women in shelters and transitional housing throughout the region. In addition to recruiting volunteers and soliciting financial donations to support the event, Hoff hopes her neighbors can spare some shoes.
The Two Bits and More store on Olympic Avenue is collecting shoes for Queen Its a New Day, and is even offering 75 percent off shoes purchased for the event. Hoff lauded this display of generosity, and asked others to help show her would-be Queens their inner worth.
There are a lot of women who are addicted, afflicted and abused, Hoff said. As they receive new hair styles, spa services and free business clothing, you can literally see their postures change. This year, well even have job application agencies on the premises. They can shake off their pasts and become self-sufficient because their self-perceptions are changed.
The Lynnwood Embassy Suites banquet facilities will host Queen Its a New Day, which is still seeking contributions of funds, new and gently worn workplace attire, handbags and accessories, new hosiery and new undergarments, all of which are tax-deductible. The event also needs hair stylists, massage therapists, cosmetic artists and manicurists to serve as Queens Servants.
Every day, a hundred women say to themselves, Today is not worth living, Hoff said. We have a different message for them. Today is their day, and its a new one.
The Queen Its a New Day event takes place April 30 from 1-7 p.m. at the Embassy Suites on 20610 44th Ave. W. in Lynnwood. Volunteer orientation meetings are scheduled for April 7 at 10 a.m. and April 15 at 7 p.m., also at the Embassy Suites.
