Lakewood tennis gets a tough lesson from South Whidbey
The Lakewood girls tennis team lost 1-6 to South Whidbey on April 20. The girls fought hard and Courtney Prosser won her individual match against Whidbey. Prosser defeated Liz Lutch 7-5, 6-3 in No. 2 singles.
Sarah Boe, playing at No. 1 singles lost 0-6, 0-6 to Lindsey Newman, one of the top players in the state.
All three doubles matches went three sets, but the Lakewood girls could not capture any of them. No. 1 doubles team Katrina Wentz and Karli Hesselman fell 1-6, 6-4, 3-6.
Jillian and Jocelyn Shafer also competed well with their Whidbey counterparts before falling 6-1, 4-6, 4-6.
In No. 3 doubles, Emily Steinborn and Lakin Poter lost a heartbreaker 5-7, 6-3, 5-7.
Lakewood fastpitch beats up on Coupeville
The Lakewood girls scored early and often in their April 20 demolition of Coupeville. The Cougars won by mercy rule after five innings, 19-7.
Nearly everybody played well for the visiting Cougars, led by Emily Burkholder going 3-3 at the plate with two doubles, scoring three runs and driving in five runners.
Kahlee Barrio also was perfect at the dish, going 2-2 with three runs batted in.
Amanda Nunley went 2-3 and scored three runs herself and winning pitcher Kally Behen also crossed home plate three times.
The girls play again April 27 against Archbishop Murphy.

Lakewood girls golf
At the Lakewood girls golf at Blue Boy Golf Course, Monroe Monday, April 16, the Cougars evened their season record at 3 and 3 with a conference win over Sultan 64 to 26.
Lakewoods Alicia Parks was the medalist in the match scoring 16 stableford points. She was followed by sophomores Peyton Mizell and Kelsey Gann who scored 14 each. Senior Binh Pham had 11, while seniors Kim Smith and Jennifer Overman each recorded 9 points.
Sultan was lead by Stevie Ryals with 7, Christy Schmidt with 6, Jamie Moon with 5, Courtnee Sinhlapasai with 3 and Clara Martinez scored 1.
The Gridiron Classic
The Gridiron Classic Golf Tournament to benefit Arlington High School football will be held on June 3. The four-person scramble event will cost $75 per golfer and includes green fees, golf car, lunch, t-shirt and prizes.
