Lakewood girls get to the line to beat Cedarcrest

The Lakewood Cougar girls basketball team toppled league rival Cedarcrest Dec. 18 by drawing fouls and converting free throws. The Cougars enjoyed a 40-17 advantage in attempts from the line and a 26-7 edge in made free throws. That 19 point differential was more than the difference in the game as Lakewood won 60-51.
We played as good a game as weve played all season long, said Coach Chris Walster. When I scouted Cedarcrest I was really impressed. I thought they were definitely one of the top teams in our league.
Lakewood got solid individual performances from Jennifer Lind, Anna Work, and Aly Stewart. Lind finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds, Work with 14 and five. The versatile Stewart handed out seven assists and also grabbed nine rebounds.
We knew they ran most of their offense through one player, said Walster, so we ran a slightly different defense than usual. We tried to double their best player every time down and that strategy was relatively effective. Jeneca Hoidal did a great job making life difficult for them all night.

Arlington falls to Everett

In a game that saw Tyler Busby go wild from the field, the Arlington Eagles boys basketball team could not score enough to beat the Everett Seagulls Dec. 18.
