ARLINGTON Two nights after a dramatic comeback against Mount Vernon, the Arlington girls basketball team watched their season slowly whittled away by a tough Shorecrest team.
While the game remained within two possessions for two and a half quarters, the Scots senior guard Jocelyn Riordan started hitting all her shots, grabbing 13 of her 29 points in the third quarter to pull ahead. This time, there were no athletic pyrotechnics to helping Arlington last one more game.
By a score of 53-37, Shorecrest won, advancing to a winner-to-state game against Ferndale.
As with their win over Mount Vernon, Arlingtons Sheryl Scheppele and Quinn Kesselring led the Eagles in scoring with 11 and 12 points respectively. Trailing 37-23 going into the fourth quarter, Arlington sought to close the gap by shooting for three. The girls were 2-for-10 from behind the arc, with Scheppele and sophomore guard Kandace Evans each responsible for one.
The team graduates just one senior, Kjirsten Jensen.
It was a hard battle, the 5-11 post said. I just came out to have a fun season.
Mission accomplished?
Yeah, she said.
