Marilyn Frances Nold

Marilyn Frances Nold passed peacefully into Heaven on Dec. 13, 2006, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Brookings, S.D., on May 16, 1930, to Rhinehold and Belle Dreher, she attended Cathedral School in Sioux Falls prior to moving west to Port Orchard, Wash., in 1943.
A graduate of the South Kitsap High School class of 1948, Marilyn was active in cheerleading, theater and music. In the fall of 1948, she met her future husband, Leigh Nold, during freshmen orientation at Central Washington College of Education. She earned a degree in elementary education and spent many years teaching and substituting in Puyallup, Seattle, Port Angeles and Stanwood.
Following her teaching career Marilyn worked at the Stanwood/Camano News, where she formed enduring friendships. Marilyn loved following all sports and was definitely one of the Seattle Mariners greatest and most optimistic fans. She was a woman of great faith and had a special devotion to St. Francis of Assisi. Marilyn was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church for 31 years.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Leigh Nold; daughters and sons-in-law, Jane Lenz of Stanwood, Claire Nold-Glaser and Jeff Glaser of Fall City, and Lynn and Alex Barashkoff of Marysville, as well as her sister and brother-in-law Bob and Marlice Kearney of Longview. She was a wonderful grandma to Karl and Jessica, Alan, John and Drew Lenz, Dylan and Emilia Frances Glaser and Dominic and Carolynn Barashkoff.
Her optimism, sense of humor and kind heart will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 20, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church. A memorial Mass celebrating Marilyns life will also be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 21, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church. At Marilyns request, memorials are suggested to Camp Brotherhood, Mount Vernon.
Arrangements are under the direction of Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood.
