Robert Lee Freestad, Bob, Mayor of Lake Ki, passed away June 11, 2007.
He was born Oct. 3, 1932.
Bob went to grade school in Lakewood, Wash., and graduated from Arlington High School with the class of 1950. He served in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Boxer and was a life member of the Boxer Shorts. They had made many trips to the reunions of Navy members and were looking forward to the U.S.S. Boxer reunion this summer in San Diego, Calif.
Bob worked for Shell Oil Company and Snohomish County road department before getting into the freight business. He worked for Oak Harbor Freightlines before working for Garrett Freight Lines from which he retired in 1988. He was a life member of Sons of Norway, member of Teamsters Local 38, The American Legion Post 76 Arlington and retired member of Lake Goodwin fire department.
Bob loved crabbing, shrimping, smelting and fishing especially off the dock in front of his house on Lake Ki. He liked to bowl with friends in Stanwood, Wash., and Arlington. His annual trip to Barkley Sound with Larry and his buddies was the highlight of his summers. Wood was his passion whether Cedar or firewood, put a chainsaw in his hands and he was happy.
Bob was a sports fan, he loved the Seahawks, Mariners and the Huskies. He and Bernice had season tickets for the Huskies and made many trips on the bus from Marysville, Wash.
Bob leaves behind his high school sweetheart, best friend and wife of 53 years, Bernice. Along with Bernice, Bob leaves his special daughter, Sheryl and her husband, Larry Jackson; his granddaughter, Shelbey, who was the idol of his life; three sisters, Marion White, Mildred Gartin and Greta Running, and her husband, Morrie; sisters-in-law, Jan Haarsager and Patsy Moyer and her husband, Al; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear caring friends.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at Everett Providence Hospital Colby Campus.

He will be missed very much by his family and his many dear and caring friends.
A celebration of a Great Life will be held at 2 p.m., June 22, 2007, at Silvana Viking Hall in Silvana, Wash.
