MARYSVILLE – Volunteers are needed to serve on the city’s Civil Service Commission and Salary Commission.

Civil Service adopts rules for the regulation of personnel administration within the police department. Meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. at City Hall. The commission has three members appointed by the mayor and serve six-year terms.

Salary Commission reviews salaries paid to elected officials. It meets annually as necessary. The commission has seven members appointed by the mayor and for three-year terms.

MARYSVILLE – Volunteer mentors are being sought for the Marysville School District’s Portfolio Project.

It is a college preparation program/workshop for incoming juniors and seniors that runs from August to November.

MARYSVILLE — A 31-year-old man was found dead in his Marysville home May 31 after a standoff with a police SWAT team.

The man appeared to have died from self-inflicted injuries, Marysville police Cmdr. Robb Lamoureux said.

An officer tried to pull over the man in the 8300 block of 76th Avenue shortly after 7:30 p.m. but he sped away. He was wanted on suspicion of arson and illegal possession of a firearm.

The suspect returned to his home. At one point, the suspect stood on the front porch and yelled at officers. Police shot him with a rubber bullet in an attempt to take him into custody.

SWAT teams entered the home after 11:30 p.m. and found the man dead.

MARYSVILLE – Ray Miller of Marysville, the only Democrat in the race for Snohomish County Council Position 1, is having a fundraiser Sunday.

Miller is taking on recent appointee Nate Nehring, Robert Sutherland and Chris Ihler, all Republicans. The top two in the Aug. 1 primary advance to the Nov. 7 general election.

MARYSVILLE – A Pajama Bowl Tournament to raise money for Junior Achievement will take place at Strawberry Lanes June 13.

The event will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3-5 p.m.

Cost is $150 per bowler.

There will be live music and prizes for best-dressed team.

MARYSVILLE – Three second-graders and three third-graders were honored at Monday’s school board meeting as winner in the Bus Safety Poster Contest.

The theme was “My Driver – My Safety Hero.”

Winners were: Gianna Morales, Aaliyah Shafer, Avery Cortes, Talia Gibbs, Paige Fadden and Allison Glassman.

Also, Traci Tobler, a driver trainer, received a commendation from OSPI Transportation.
