ARLINGTON The Stillaguamish Tribe of Indians is accepting applications from public and non-profit agencies, through Jan. 31, for projects designed to address any negative impacts of Stillaguamish Tribal Gaming operations, at the Angel of the Winds Casino, on the north Snohomish County area.
Funds will be awarded on a competitive basis to eligible applicants who demonstrate not only their approaches to address such negative impacts, but also their ability to complete their projects by Dec. 31 of next year.
The Stillaguamish Tribe opened the Angel of the Winds Casino more than two years ago, under a gaming compact with the state of Washington that requires them to reserve 2 percent of their net profits to address their gaming operations negative impacts on the surrounding community.
The compact also required the appointment of a committee to review the applications and recommend funding to the Stillaguamish Tribal Council. The current committee includes representatives from the city of Arlington, Snohomish County, the Washington State Gambling Commission and the Stillaguamish Tribe itself.
The Stillaguamish Tribe Two-Percent Mitigation Advisory Committee will consider each proposal submitted for final award, and applications may be obtained by contacting the Stillaguamish Tribe at 360-652-7362. Completed applications must be postmarked or received by the Stillaguamish Tribal Offices no later than 5 p.m., Jan. 31, 2007. No faxed or e-mailed applications will be accepted. The postal mailing address for the Stillaguamish Tribe is P.O. Box 277, Arlington, WA 98223-0277.
