ARLINGTON Arlington Mayor Margaret Larson was honored for her years of work on behalf of her community by the Arlington Rotary, July 2.
John Meno, outgoing president of the Arlington Rotary, presented Larson with a Paul Harris Fellowship Award at the City Council meeting, describing her as the epitome of an Arlington resident.
She was the first one to meet me when I came to town, Meno said. She was a true ambassador for the community. There are few people who love this town as much as her and we wanted to recognize her for all shes done, both in the school district and as mayor.
Larson was quick to deflect credit for the award away from herself, by characterizing her contributions to the community as team efforts.
These things didnt just happen because of me, Larson said. We have the Council and city staff to thank as well. Id be the last person to say I stood alone. Ive never seen a harder-working group of people than our Rotary. Theyre tireless in their service to the community.
The Arlington Rotary will donate $1,000 in Larsons name to the annual programs fund for Rotary International, making her a Paul Harris Fellow. Harris was one of four American businessmen who founded Rotary International in 1905.
