ARLINGTON Students at Arlington Christian School were asked to contemplate The Most Unforgettable Person Ive Ever Known for their Arts & Authors project, coordinated by Sheila Craft and the entire student body presented their finished projects at the Arts & Author Night Open House in the evening of Jan. 31.
Each student of the student body, from little K – 4s to the tallest 12th-grader submitted biographies of a person special to them. Presented at the open house for all to view, there were stories of moms, dads, aunts, grandfathers, pastors, and cherished family friends.
Each story was embellished with illustrations. Some students used hand-drawn portraits facilitated by after-school art teacher Kim Hayward, who also teaches kindergarten, and some borrowed photographs from family photo albums.
Some of the books were hand-printed, some were typed. Some were held together with a single staple, while others were bound with gold yarn or shiny black ribbon.
Along with the book project, Bethany Finchs photography class presented an exhibit of black and white and color photographs and some of those photography students turned their images into jigsaw puzzles.
One photograph showed a single, large raindrop perched on the leaf of a plant, Finch said. Amazing.
These junior high and high school students are already planning to enter the student photography contest coordinated by the Arts Council of Snohomish County.
Long after this night has passed, these biographies will stand as testament to the research and writing skills of Arlington Christian students, Finch said.
