EVERETT Anyone hoping Arlington football would repeat the results of their last appearance at Everett Memorial Stadium had to be sorely disappointed.
While the Eagles had pulled off an overtime victory there over Everett, Sept. 21, they suffered a resounding 42-6 defeat at the hands of a dominating Cascade team Oct. 20.
Both teams remained scoreless for nearly nine minutes before a key fourth-down conversion set Cascade up for a touchdown by Bruin senior Lorne Bridgford on the next play.
An Arlington turnover set up Cascade for a Julian Willis touchdown within a minute of their first score, and the Eagles faced a 14-point deficit by the end of the first quarter.
As the Arlington offense struggled to put together a drive, Bruin running backs Bridgford and Willis combined to assault the Arlington defense. Just before the six-minute mark, Bridgford earned his second touchdown of the night on a Cascade drive. The Bruins went up 20-0, missing their extra point, but made up for the loss with a two-point conversion when Willis found the end zone 16 seconds before halftime.
Willis got his third touchdown less than 90 seconds into the second half, breaking free on a 70-yard run to put Cascade up 35-0. Quarterback Aaron Frye got the Bruins sixth touchdown of the game on a keeper to put his team up 42-0.
Despite a usually successful running tandem of Brad McPherson, Jerad Barber and Michael Keating, most of Arlingtons offense that night came on the arm of sophomore quarterback Jake Parduhn.
In the fourth quarter, Parduhn connected with McPherson for an event that hadnt happened in some 15 quarters of Cascade football a touchdown by a Bruin opponent.
Arlington will close their regular season at home against Marysville-Pilchuck Oct. 26.
