ARLINGTON — Wednesday, Oct. 23, marked the end of an era for the city of Arlington and the Arlington Municipal Airport, as Arlington Airport Manager Rob Putnam was congratulated on his retirement from more than 32 years of service to the city, the past 21 of which have been spent at the airport.
ARLINGTON — The Girl Scouts of Service Unit 215 braved blustery winds to treat locals and visitors to the Arlington area to some seasonal fun.
ARLINGTON — Tanner Gaskin was honored by the city of Arlington on Monday, Oct. 21, for his Eagle Scout project, earlier in the year, to install a road and parking pads for 12 campsites at the Country Charm Conservation and Recreation Area.
LAKEWOOD — The Lakewood School District doesn’t want their grade school kids to be left out of the seasonal fun on the weekend before Halloween, which is why Lakewood Elementary, English Crossing Elementary and Cougar Creek Elementary have come together again to stage the annual HiJinx Carnival from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, in the gymnasium of Lakewood High School.
A full day of events is scheduled in downtown Arlington on the Saturday before Halloween.
ARLINGTON — The National Day of Service and Remembrance project to paint a fence in the Arlington Heights neighborhood, whose preparation work ran from Sept. 11-13, was finally completed on Saturday, Oct. 5, nearly a full month after its originally scheduled completion date of Sept. 14.
The Arlington City Council will be conducting a public hearing on its revenue sources on Monday, Oct. 21, in the wake of its Oct. 14 workshop meeting which discussed setting the 2014 property tax levy.
As the Nov. 5 deadline to turn in general election ballots approaches, the Arlington City Council candidates continue to try to get their messages out to the public.
The Arlington High School Girls Softball team made history with their championship win this spring, and on Wednesday, Oct. 16, that history was recorded on the Arlington State Championship Sign, at the corner of Highway 9 and Highway 530, as the girls updated the sign recording Arlington’s wins in boys football, girls softball and girls basketball. Prior to Oct. 16, Arlington’s most recently recorded state championship win on the sign was in girls softball in 1986.
ARLINGTON — “At least now everyone will know where Lebanon Park is,” laughed Mike Conner, the Arlington Garden Club treasurer who’s maintained the small and often-forgotten park on the southwest end of Olympic Avenue, as a decorative sign designating the property was unveiled on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
ARLINGTON — The Arlington School District will again be inviting elected officials, members of the community and students’ families to the fall “Know Your Schools” event, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25.
As the Nov. 5 deadline approaches for Snohomish County voters to return their ballots for the general election, one county-wide elected office has become something of a local equivalent to a “subway series” for Arlington, the hometown of both candidates for Snohomish County Council Position 1.
ARLINGTON — Arlington’s “Hometown Halloween” on Saturday, Oct. 26, might be short both a pumpkin roll and a pumpkin pie contest, if the city of Arlington isn’t able to find sponsors for those events.
