Santa Rosa, Calif. — The daughter of an Arlington resident, Heather Littlefield, of Petaluma, Calif., was one of 1,000 students nationwide to earn national recognition from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards for 2008.
In early May our Pacific Coast Dogwood is usually in full regalia. These large trees have graced our landscapes for centuries with their ethereal white blooms but unfortunately have become a magnet for disease in recent years and now they are hard to find in the industry.
Visual artists had a go at using the new Byrnes Performing Arts Center May 3, drawing a big crowd into the lobby to see an impressive exhibit of drawings and paintings along with hand-crafted items such as stained glass, jewelry, garden art and other artistic items crafted by art students at the school.
Mike McCroirie of Lavender Hills Farm is helping plan Snohomish County’s fall farm festival, “Farming Yesterday and Today” and he has announced the next meeting is 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 14 at the Arlington Boys and Girls Club, at 18513 59th Ave. NE, near the Arlington Airport. Led by sophomore Stacia Ashley, the M-P girls golf team took fourth out of nine teams at divisionals May 6 and 8.
The third time was the charm for Lakewood soccer, as the Cougars finally defeated conference archnemesis Cedarcrest, 1-0, to win the district championship May 10.
SNOHOMISH — Arlington had two league champions and collected a slew of other awards at the Western Conference championships May 7 and 9.
Lakewood athletes were named conference champs in eight events when Cedarcrest hosted the Cascade Conference track and field championships May 7 and 9.
ARLINGTON — Arlington schools have received more than $65,000 in grants to make themselves and their surrounding community safer.
