Future generations

As our community grows, Cascade Valley Hospital needs to expand and upgrade certain services or it will not survive.
As a retired employee of Cascade Valley Hospital, after 29 years, I know full well the critical role this hospital plays in our community. I am a nurse who worked in the emergency department. I saw the number of patients that may not have survived an extra 30 minutes drive to Mt. Vernon or Everett.
It is not by chance that this hospital has survived when other rural hospitals have been forced to close.
We, the voters, have made this possible. We need to keep the Hospital in our district, if not only for the convenience, familiarity, quality care it provides and for those critical times when emergency care is essential.
After 20 years, we are again called upon to support our hospital. Some will say, how can we afford our taxes to increase? I say, how can we afford not to? Let us not only think of ourselves when we vote, but of our future generations. Let us assure them they can have what we have had for so many years, a very good local health care system.
