What justifies keeping a person in prison for his entire life with no hope whatsoever? The sentence of life without the possibility of parole is certainly cruel and unusual punishment for those who have not harmed anyone.
Our Three-Strikes Law was meant to incarcerate the worst of the worst but unfortunately they are not the only ones caught up. People should be punished when they commit a crime, but the punishment should fit the crime. Many of those who have received a sentence of life without the possibility of parole under the Three-Strikes Law committed non-armed and non-injury crimes.
We have a serious, ongoing injustice in our Three-Strikes Law. Life without the possibility of parole is forever. It is second only to death.
