I would like to single out a group of individuals that work relentlessly to increase the quality of life for our young people. The results of their efforts help promote the American Dream in our children and contribute to a variety of other qualities we find desirable in our community.
I am, of course, referring to the teaching, administrative and support staff which make up our Lakewood School District. Once again, our district is back at the polls asking the voters to approve two levy measures, The Replacement School Program and Operations Levy and The Technology Projects Levy.
The Replacement School Program and Operations Levy is not a new tax. It is a renewal of the levy we approved in 2004. The monies collected from the levy make up the difference between state and federal funding the district receives to educate our children. Failure to pass the levy could mean cuts in areas such as athletics, food services, facility maintenance (clean bathrooms, etc.) and transportation, not to mention basic education needs.
The Technology Projects Levy would fund the districts technology package in areas such as instructional technology (computer/printers), infrastructure improvements, security, staff training and implementation. In order to prepare our children for life in the real world, they should have access to the most current computer equipment and software available.
On Feb. 19, please vote yes, in support of our Lakewood School District. Anyone who supports a strong community should exercise their right to vote and help our kids prepare for their future.
