4 Arlington students win money for charities

ARLINGTON – Four middle and high school students were recognized Jan. 25 by the Rotary Club of Arlington for making a difference. The Rotarians wanted to recognize students who stand out in different ways in their schools. The Rotary Club also donated $50 to a charity of the student’s choice.

Peyton Brown from Arlington High School was recognized for being an outstanding student and athlete. “She is simply the best role model a school could hope for to have for its current and future athletes,” athletic director Tom Roys said. Peyton’s $50 contribution will be made to the American Cancer Society. Haller Middle School student Quintin Yon-Wagner is a leader in the school. “He is always a mentor to those around him, helping them understand the concepts we are learning,” science teacher Scott Rice said. Quintin’s $50 contribution will be made to the American Indian College Fund. Matthew Resnick from Post Middle School provides encouragement and support to students having a hard time. “Matthew displays a positive attitude by graciously accepting feedback and making efforts to improve, which is evident by his academic progress,” teacher Caren Gallanger said. Matthew’s $50 contribution will be made to the Sarvey Wildlife Center.

Nekco Jones from Weston High School embodies the qualities of a true leader. “Nekco is a facilitator for Restorative Justice practices in which she works to help her fellow students resolve conflicts,” Principal Will Nelson said. Nekco’s $50 contribution will be made to the Northwest Organization for Animal Help (NOAH).
