AHS Spring Band Concert set for April 9

It’s their final concert of the school year, except, of course the Swing into Spring dessert dance in May.

All the bands of Arlington High School, conducted by John Grabowski, will show off their talent at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 9. The evening of free band music will include recognition for nearly 30 seniors who will be graduating soon.

“It’s a bittersweet moment for Mr. Grabowski to say goodbye to his students after nurturing their talent and seeing their passion for music grow over their four years of high school,” said parent Band Booster Marlene Lewis.

In addition to marching at football games during the fall, AHS band activities include Pep Band at basketball games, marching in Arlington’s Veterans Day Parade and the AHS Homecoming Parade, three major band concerts in the PAC, Jazz Night 2009, the MPMEA Large Group Band Festival, and the upcoming Swing into Spring dessert dance.

The Wind Ensemble traveled to Anaheim, Calif. in March to record a Disney sound track and participate in a clinic at Cal State Long Beach. The two jazz bands, Jazz II and On Hold, will travel to Portland, OR for the Cleveland Jazz Festival in April.

And tickets will go on sale soon for “Swing Into Spring,” a fundraiser presented by the On Hold and Jazz II jazz bands. The dessert dance is set for May 8 and 9 in the AHS commons. Tickets will be available soon at Flowers By George, 335 N. Olympic Ave., and at Copy, Mail and More, 526 N. West Ave., in Arlington.
