ARLINGTON — Arlington High School’s Jazz Bands are once again offering music lovers the opportunity to “Swing Into Spring.”
The AHS Jazz Bands’ annual “Swing Into Spring” dessert dances will kick off at 7 p.m. in the school’s commons area, located at 18821 Crown Ridge Blvd., on May 6 and 7.
Students invite jazz fans to shine up their dancing shoes as the commons will be transformed into the “Easy G Jazz Club,” featuring the On Hold and Jazz II bands directed by John Grabowski.
Listeners will be able to enjoy popular numbers by Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton, Glenn Miller and many more.
This event is intended to welcome the community into the high school and serve as a showcase for the talents of the high school’s jazz musicians.
Tickets will be available at the door, but event organizers strongly recommend that would-be attendees reserve their table seating in advance at Arlington Copy, Mail & More, located at 526 N. West Ave. in downtown Arlington. Their phone number is 360-435-4900. Tickets are $12 each, which includes music, dancing, dessert and beverages served by the jazz students.
Grabowski and his jazz bands demonstrate their dedication to their craft by conducting classes outside of regular school hours. On Hold is an audition-only jazz band that meets every weekday morning before school at 7 a.m. Jazz II is a volunteer group that rehearses for two hours every Tuesday night.
“Swing Into Spring” also serves as a major fundraiser for the AHS Jazz Bands.
The “Easy G Jazz Club” doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the performance begins at 7 p.m. For more information call AHS at 360-618-6300.
