EVERETT — Three Marysville-area artists — James Madison, Susie Howell and Judy Zugish — and Arlington artist Helen Lueken have been accepted to show their work in Art of the Garden, an annual show presented by the Arts Council of Snohomish County.

Madison is a Tulalip artist who creates outstanding outdoor sculptures among many other items inspired by his traditional heritage and influences of modern life. Howell turns photographs of the outside world into elegant, artist “digital paintings” and Zugish creates baskets from materials grown in her expansive Marysville garden. Lueken captures images from the garden, painting the hydrangeas, rhododendrons and other flowers that grow in her Sisco Heights yard.

“The colorful show includes a wide variety of media, such as ceramic, cement casting, sculpture, glass, photographs, paintings and much more,” said the gallery director, Carie Collver.

“The display allows those with their heart in the garden to experience the visual impact of personalizing even the smallest landscape with the whimsy and grace of garden art,” Collver added. The show also offers structural pieces that define the garden spaces long after the flowers have faded.

The north county artists join more than 50 artists from around the Puget Sound region, who’s art brings the garden into the home, or who make art to enhance the beauty and intrigue of the garden outside. The show includes the Snohomish County Artist of the Year, Reg Akright, and Guy Anderson, Carol Belval, Joy Bezanis, Steve Bryant, Dennis Cant, Patsy Chamberlain, Sue Cole, Josh Cote, Edd Cox, Connie Eden, Joan Enslin, Mona Fairbanks, Karen L. Fishburn, Rebecca Fletcher, Janet Foley, Diane Frederick, Janet Hamilton, Sue Hart, Shelley Holm, Fran Holt, Gina Holt, Katherine Holzknecht, Steven Jensen, Jennifer Lommers, Janie Olsen, Heather McGilvray, Molly LeMaster, Merrilee Moore, Marissa Motto, Linda Nelson, Theresa Novion, Cheri O’Brien, Jason Rees Jones, Paula Rey, Zefrim Rose, Mary Rothermel, Ron Smith, Lisa Snow Lady, Lisa Spreacker, Darcy Thompson, Pat Tolle, Nilcole Walker, Janet Wold, Roxann VanWyk, Judy Zugish, and more.
