“There are animals out there that need to be rescued,” said Judy Foster, a local coordinator of the event.

The organization started as Scrub-A-Mutt, washing dogs, but they wanted to do more. They wanted to save lives.

They changed their name to Save-A-Mutt and now focus on four areas.

•Hero Dog Puppies: They love saving dogs from kill shelters. But that costs an average of over $100 in transportation and veterinarian care. Hero dog adoption fees are spent rescuing more dogs. Each puppy is vaccinated, spayed/neutered, microchipped and readied for a forever home.

•Senior Dogs: Older dogs need rescuing too. They are sweet and need special homes.

•Adoption Process: Get pre-approved so when you see a dog you are interested in you get “first dibs.” Available dogs are posted on Facebook and PetFinder.

•Foster Homes Needed: It is rewarding to help a dog find its forever home. Fosters care for puppies, adults and seniors.
