ARLINGTON — Those whose yards are wet, weedy, uninspiring or useless can learn how to improve their yards’ beauty and functionality at the “Gardening With a Purpose” class on Tuesday, May 1.

Stacy Aleksich from the Snohomish Conservation District will teach attendees how to reduce time-consuming maintenance and put the rain to work for them from 6-8 p.m. that day at the Arlington Utilities building, located at 154 W. Cox Ave.

Zsofia Pasztor, of Innovative Landscape Technologies, and Philomena Kedziorski, of Washington State University’s Snohomish County Extension Office, will also teach sections of the gardening class.

Topics are set to include rain barrels, rain gardens, terraces, soil amendments, buffers, berms, layered planting, permeable paths and dealing with soggy spots.
