Modern off-Broadway musical hit in Marysville

MARYSVILLE – [title of show] is a musical written by two guys about two guys writing a musical…

Red Curtain Foundation presents the Obie Award-winning musical May 31-June 16 at the Red Curtain Arts Center, 9315 State Ave. #J. Jeff Bowen (Peter Davies) and Hunter Bell (Nick Poling), two self-confessed nobodies in New York, make a pact: They will write an original musical and submit it to a festival. The catch? The deadline is in three weeks. They gather their two actress friends, Susan (Lexi Jones) and Heidi (Nina Prentiss), and their accompanist and music director, Larry (Luke Selbeck), on the keys.

Jeff and Hunter then hit another roadblock – what should they write about? The writers decide to follow the old adage, “Write what you know,” and set off on a unique adventure: writing a musical about writing a musical. As the deadline looms, insecurities creep in and jealousies flare. Will the team succeed?

In this intelligent, playful, lovable new musical, the audience is treated to an inside look at the tough work of being a creative artist. Frequently hilarious, occasionally heartbreaking, and thoroughly inspiring, [title of show] is a love story celebrating individuality and creativity.

The show is rated PG-13; it contains strong language and mature content. Written by Hunter Bell and Jeff Bowen, this production is directed by Eric Bischoff with musical direction by Christopher Puckett and choreography by Lexi Jones.
