Scout, cheerleader from MG students of the month

MARYSVILLE – Ian Crosby and Elise Sumsion of Marysville Getchell High School are the December Boy and Girl of the Month, as picked by the Marysville Soroptimist and Kiwanis clubs.

Crosby is an Eagle Scout and Senior Patrol Leader, along with being a Battalion Operations Officer with the Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. In all of those roles he is active in organizing, planning and leading others.

He was on the unarmed drill team that placed first in state and was cadet of the year in 2016.

As a member of the Snohomish County Rotaract (Rotary), he assists in planning monthly service projects. He also worked in maintenance for the county parks department. For sports, he plays on MG’s tennis team, and also is captain of the Cascade/Arlington Lacrosse Club. He has a 3.7 grade point average while taking Advanced Placement Government and Politics. Sumsion has a 4.0 gpa while taking numerous AP courses. She is a standout cheerleader, having been nominated as an All-American this year and receiving a Superior Award the past two years at a national leadership camp. She is captain of the MG team, creating and choreographing routines.

She plans to go to college and either major in arts or elementary education.

“I hope to pursue a field I am passionate about while working with children and sharing a creative outlet,” she said.

For jobs she has been a piano teacher, been in child care and worked in sales at Levi’s.

Sumsion is involved in Associated Student Body leadership, and is class president, camp leader and seminary student for her LDS church.

She’s also been involved with the drama department, as the choreographer for “Beauty and the Beast.” She has been a dancer with the Marysville Performing Arts Center since 2011. For community service she’s been involved in numerous projects with the National Honor Society and Key Club. Her charity dance projects have raised money for suicide awareness, breast cancer, service dogs and foster kids. She received a Marysville Rotary Community Service Award this year.
