MARYSVILLE – Four housewives declare their independence and form a punk rock band in “Angry Housewives,” a Seattle classic to be performed at the Red Curtain June 1-17.

Set in the 1980s, four heroines are bored with their everyday mundane existence and frustrated by the men in their lives, so they decide to form a punk-rock band to win a cash prize in a local talent contest. Facing opposition from their husbands and sons, the women dig in their high heels, grab their instruments and turn it up.

Directed by Scott B. Randall, the high-energy rock-n-roll musical is a fun-filled look at the decade that gave us big hair, bigger shoulder pads and a sense of feminine power. “Angry Housewives” is the longest-running musical in Seattle theatre history. Written by A.M. Collins and Chad Henry, this punk-rock musical went on to play for nearly seven years in Pioneer Square Theatre spaces, burning its songs and cut-loose attitude into Pacific Northwest history.

The show stars Britta Grass, Jenny Price, Codie Wyatt Clark and Hilary Erlandson as the fabulous foursome who rock the house. The men, who try in vain to keep our heroines in aprons and pearls are played by Morgan Peeler, Bruce Erickson, Christopher Bartness, and Kell Engi.

The play is not recommended for kids 12 and younger.

Performances are Friday and Saturday nights at 8 and Sundays at 2 p.m. at the Red Curtain Arts Center, 9315 State Ave, Suite J.
