The 54th annual Trafton Fair is Friday, Sept. 26, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Trafton School. The theme this year, “It’s What YOU Want” speaks to the community support of this historic rural school located just a few miles northeast of Arlington on SR 530.

Since 1954 the Trafton Fair has been held on the last Friday of September in the afternoon of the regular school day. The kids and adults love the event, which includes a variety of carnival games, live animals, food and barbecue lunch, face painting, clowns, a silent auction, music, raffles, produce and student crafts for sale and more. Along with the Trafton students, their families and pen-pal classes in town, the Navy and the Arlington community are all invited. The Trafton Parent-Teacher Club presents the fair to raise funds that will benefit all the students throughout the year.

Raffle items are generously donated by local businesses and Trafton families. Their names will be displayed on the “Wall of Thanks” at the fair. Fair proceeds are allocated at the October PTC meeting, 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 14. Teachers submit requests and PTC members vote on what they want to support. In past years fair proceeds have paid for theater tickets, playground equipment, awards, classroom supplies and many other things to enhance the education at Trafton. The cost to enjoy the fun is 25 cents per ticket. Lunch is 11 tickets this year and pre-ticket sales are available at the school.

Volunteers to help at the fair are always welcome, with many different opportunities for everyone to help. You can help organize, set up the night before the fair, work a booth or game, donate or collect donations from merchants and the community, hang up posters, make crafts to sell or bake and decorate cakes for the cake walk and the bake sale.
