ARLINGTON — At least 80 Arlington residences were awaken by tremors from a 3.7 magnitude earthquake eight miles north of the city at 1:42 a.m.

There is a 15 percent chance that a larger earthquake can happen in the next 50 years and that likelihood has increased slightly because of this event, said Bill Steele, communications office at the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network. He assured residence that chance will go back down to baseline in the next 48 hours.

Aftershocks in the next two days are unlikely but will be felt if they do occur, he added.

No calls were received regarding damages or injuries, Arlington public safety director Bruce Stedman said.

ARLINGTON — About 80 people in Arlington reported May 7 that they felt a 3.7 magnitude earthquake whose epicenter was about 10 miles away.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake at 1:42 a.m. was about eight miles northeast of Bryant. The people in Arlington reported on the USGS website that they felt it.

Julie Dutton with the USGS National Earthquake Information Center says it’s unlikely that the quake was related to a series of small temblors that have been shaking California in recent days.
