3 finalists selected for Arlington schools superintendent; public meetings start Tuesday

ARLINGTON – Three superintendent finalists have been chosen by the Arlington Public Schools Board of Directors to move forward in the interview process. The three finalists and the dates they will meet the public are:

•Andrew Rogers, superintendent, Liberty Elementary School District, Tuesday, June 7.

•Marci Shepard, superintendent, Orting School District, Wednesday, June 8

•Chrys Sweeting, assistant superintendent – Puyallup School District, Thursday, June 9.

As part of the interview process, all three candidates will tour a few of the school buildings and meet with administrators, staff and students. A community forum will be held for each candidate in the Haller Middle School library beginning at 6:30 p.m. The district invites the public to attend and submit written feedback on all three.

The school board will interview each candidate in an executive session following the community forum. The school board may conduct site visits to

each of their current school districts on Friday, June 10.

The school board could select the new superintendent as early as June 13.

The district’s choice will succeed Kristine McDuffy, who was selected as the superintendent of Edmonds School District.

On June 13 the school board will offer a contract at its board meeting. The new superintendent will begin on July 1.

All three finalists have a variety of administrative experience, exhibited leadership within the educational system and have shown a commitment to the community.

Rogers has been the superintendent in Buckeye, Ariz., for nine years. He received his doctorate from the University of Washington in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies in 2005. He was the executive director of Student Services in the Marysville School District for two years where he was responsible for special education, math K-12 and middle schools. Prior to that, he was a principal for seven years at College Place Middle School in the Edmonds School District. He started his career in the Shoreline School District as a middle school teacher and assistant principal.

Shepard has served as a teacher, building administrator, executive director for Teaching, Learning, Assessment and Technology; and assistant superintendent. She has served in Sequim, Enumclaw and Orting) and believes that living and being an active community member in those places has made the difference in her leadership and impact. She earned her doctorate from Walden University.

Sweeting has served in public education for over 30 years. She earned her doctorate in Leadership for Learning from the University of Washington. Her service in public education includes teacher assistant, teacher, curriculum specialist, assistant principal, principal, executive director of special services, and currently for six years as assistant superintendent in a large district with over of 22,000 students.
