4th of July grand parade a community tradition

Marching bands, football teams, dance squads decked-out vehicles and floats will want to make room in this year’s traditional old-fashioned Arlington Fourth of July Grand Parade – the “bots” are coming.

The Arlington High School NeoBots Robotics Team 2903 are this year’s Grand Parade marshals in honor of their 4th place finish in the FIRST World Championship Event in Houston last April, their first trip to compete at a world-class level.

The Arlington-Smokey Point Chamber of Commerce is organizing this year’s parade, which will feature an eclectic mix of more than 100 entries making their way along Olympic Avenue starting at 5 p.m. on July 4.

Registration for the grand parade runs from 2:30-4:30 p.m. at the Public Utility District building at 210 E. Division St. Entrants cannot participate if they aren’t signed up by 4:30 p.m. Volunteers will be site to coordinate registration, judge entrants and supervise the order in which participants will make their procession through downtown Arlington.

A $100 entry fee will be charged for political entries or candidates running for office in the upcoming election.

A $25 fee will be charged for all commercial entries. Registration is free for all other entrants.
