DARRINGTON — Fiber optic cables in the area of the State Route 530 slide have been damaged and, as a result, 911 services in the Darrington and Oso communities are not available.

Shari Ireton, director of communications for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, said that it’s unknown how many people have been affected by the outage. She has no estimate on when service will be restored.

In the meantime, residents in the area are being asked to go directly to their local police and fire agencies for service.
