TACOMA — Arlington’s got a shot.

“We feel great about this,” coach Joe Marsh said. “These seniors worked long and hard.”

The Eagles did away with Kamiakin 44-30 in the semifinals March 4, advancing them to the 3A state girls basketball championship round.

The team standing between the valiant Eagles and the title is Bellevue, who knocked out Lynnwood in the semifinals.

“We got our work cut out for us,” Marsh said. “We’ll go back to the hotel room tonight and come up with something.”

Arlington’s starting seniors all contributed to the win over Kamiakin, but sophomore Peyton Brown led with 11 points with three three-pointers made.

“Peyton’s a great shooter,” Marsh said. “She had a little bounce in her step, she was ready to go. and knocked down some big shots for us.”

Which in turned helped Arlington’s pressing defense get set up, Marsh added.

Arlington began the game characteristically slow, until they broke to a 14-3 lead with a Brown three-point goal made.

The Eagles swept the remaining three quarters with their signature defense and their ability to score from all over the court. Arlington seniors Sevi Biesler and Serafina Balderas added two three-point goals each in the second half.

With two state games under Arlington’s belt, Marsh is focused on Bellevue in the championship round.

“They’re a great team,” Marsh said. “They have a ton of talent.”

Players to watch out for from Bellevue are point guard Anna Wilson, who led the Wolverines with 16 points against Lynnwood, and 6-foot-1 guard Shelby Cansler who added 14.

Marsh is certain of one thing from his Eagles, however.

“This team will battle,” Marsh said. “I know that for sure.”
