ARLINGTON — The city of Arlington Fire Department donned pink T-shirts to support Breast Cancer Awareness recently.

“Breast cancer has the potential to touch each of our lives, from our spouses, siblings, children, friends and co-workers” said Interim Fire Chief Tom Cooper. “This terrible illness will be diagnosed in approximately 207,000 Americans in 2010 but even worse is that just this year, approximately 40,000 will die of breast cancer. Many in our department and in our City have been personally touched in some way by this disease. We wanted to show our support to those currently going through the battle of their life, to those who have successfully beaten it and also to those who may have lost a loved one.”

A little known fact is the male population is not exempt from this disease. In 2010, about 1970 males will be diagnosed and 390 will die.

The Arlington Fire Department will proudly wear the bright pink T-shirts supporting breast cancer awareness the remainder of this week.
