ARLINGTON — With the Arlington Idol contest coming up during the Arlington Street Fair on July 11, some talented singers have come out and auditioned for an opportunity to sing in front of their community and win a prize as well.

The sponsor of the contest, Movement Arts of Arlington, announced Monday that auditions will continue through June.

“We are looking for local singers with talent who want to perform and share their beautiful voices with the community. You never know what will happen, but if you put it out there, something will come of it,” said Kara Keating, director of Movement Arts.

Three singers, Carina Green, Shelby Southey and Alexa Soriano, are already in the line-up for the show.

“You can tell when they start to sing that they love what they are doing,” Keating said.

Audition judges are Keating, MaryRose Denton and Pam Koons. They found themselves with tears in their eyes after hearing some of the songs performed at the first audition Saturday, June 14.

Local celebrity judges with arts and entertainment backgrounds will be on site at 6:15 p.m. July 11 when the contest provides entertainment at the Arlington Street Fair in the gazebo at Legion Park. The judges will decide who will win the $150 cash prize, while considering audience reactions. Movement Arts is providing the $150 cash prize.

All are welcome to come and enjoy free music through the talents of our local residents.

“Along with the prize, there will be the fun of doing it, the joy of local recognition, and who knows, maybe there will be a talent scout out there that night,” Keating said, encouraging more singers to try out.

Auditions will continue by appointment beginning at 6:45 p.m., Thursday evenings.

Singers must be age 16 and above and should bring music on a CD or be prepared to sing without music.
