ARLINGTON — An Arlington High School student recently took part in a prestigious program.

In July, Cadet Jacob Hughes from the school’s U.S. Air Force JROTC program attended the Aerospace & Technology Honors Camp at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.

Major Mike Blue, senior aerospace science instructor at the high school, said that over the past three years, only 18 students in Washington have been selected to participate in the camp.

“ATHC objectives are to introduce high achieving high school cadets to scientific, technical and flying career opportunities in the Air Force,” Blue said. “Selection to attend one of the camps is very competitive. Selected cadets must be enrolled in college prep math and science courses and have demonstrated outstanding leadership potential.”

Hughes was one of 413 students to attend the camp of the approximately 103,000 cadets nationwide, making him in the top one-half of one percent.
