Arlington School District issues statement about alleged cyber-bullying

ARLINGTON — School officials who investigated a YouTube video featuring two Arlington girls calling two fellow high school freshman fat and ugly said they are “keeping an eye on the situation.”

Misti Gilman, Arlington School District spokeswoman, said that high school administrators were made aware of the video, which was recorded on private property and not on at the school, earlier this month.

Gilman said in a statement Wednesday, May 18, that officials investigated to make sure that no harassment, bullying or intimidation was taking place on campus among those affected by the video.

Gilman said last week that because the video, recorded by one current and another former Arlington High School student and posted on the popular video website, was not recorded on school property, there is nothing that the district can do.

“(Administrators) work very hard to keep the focus on learning and avoid any interruptions to the educational program,” Gilman said in a statement.

According to a Q13 News report that aired earlier this month, parents of the girls who were the subject of the video are threatening legal action against the district.

Gilman suggested that concerned parents visit the school website for more information on cyber-bullying. That web address is www.asd.wednet.edu/ahs.
