ARLINGTON — Tickets weren’t the only near-sold-out item at the start of the Coaches versus Cancer boys basketball game Jan. 22 at Arlington High School.

The second run of pink Arlington t-shirts promoting breast cancer awareness have been flying off the shelves, and were gone within minutes of the gym doors opening.

“The support has just been fantastic,” said Arlington Eagles coach Nick Brown, whose wife, Caryn, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. “My wife and I have just been overwhelmed, really, by the community response.”

The shirts weren’t gone because of a large crowd, however, as most spectators looking to buy one at the game were too late. In the school’s second run of the shirts, athletic secretary Amy Miller said she received the shirts Jan. 21 and except for fewer than a handful of youth-sized shirts, they were sold out by 10 a.m. the following day.

Priced at $10 per shirt, all proceeds will go to the inaugural Relay for Life, which is to be held at the Arlington High School track and field June 4.

So far, the Arlington athletic office has sold 342 shirts, totaling a donation for roughly $700 with a third run of 195 shirts ordered and to be sold at the boys hoops game Jan. 29 vs. Marysville-Pilchuck.
