Arlington teams up for Winter Warmth

ARLINGTON — Those served by Kids’ Kloset of Arlington will benefit from a collection drive for warm winter clothes that’s continuing through the end of the month.

The Haggen Food and Pharmacy store in Arlington, located at 20115 74th Ave. NE, is among those accepting donations through Jan. 31 for Operation Winter Warmth, co-sponsored by KAFE 104.1 FM, to distribute new and gently used coats, hats, gloves and scarves to children and adults alike in northwest Washington.

“For most of us, it’s easy to put on a warm coat when the weather gets chilly,” said Becky Skaggs, spokesperson for the Haggen stores. “But for many children and adults in our communities, keeping warm isn’t that easy. We encourage everyone to look through their closets and drawers with a generous spirit.”

In spite of receiving an unprecedented number of grants within the past fiscal year, Kids’ Kloset is still only able to serve approximately half of the 2,300 children in the Arlington, Lakewood and Darrington school districts who are eligible for their services due to qualifying for free or reduced-price lunches as a result of their families’ incomes.

“We still need lots of warm coats, hats and gloves, especially at this time of the year,” Kids’ Kloset Co-Director Kimberly Meno said.

Kids’ Kloset of Arlington is located at 135 S. French Ave. For more information, call them at 360-435-4875 or log onto their website at www.arlingtonkidskloset.com.
