• Dec. 13 — Arlington Garden Club members will teach members and residents how to make their own holiday wreaths. This is a very popular workshop.

• Jan. 10, 2009 — Michelle Clark, Certified Horticulturist, is a very popular speaker in Pacific Northwest gardening circles. Her topic will be Winter Gardening: Get the jump on Spring.

• Feb. 14, 2009 — AGC members Carol & Leroy Jacques will provide pictures and commentary on their trip to gardens in Italy. They previously gave a presentation on Ireland and the photography was wonderful.

• March 14, 2009 — Master Gardner Wink Cushman will discuss Ornamental Grasses for your garden.

• April 11, 2009 — This workshop is usually held in conjunction with the City of Arlington’s Arbor Day. More information will be posted on our website as this develops.

• May 9, 2009 — This will be a special presentation which will have the Arlington Garden Club hosting neighboring Garden Clubs and the Evergreen District. Our speaker will be Marianne Binetti who has traveled the world speaking on garden topics. This meeting may be held in a alternative location due to the popularity of Ms. Binetti. Information and cost will be advertised closer to the date.

Sleeping over with science and arts

Western Washington University is hosting Sleeping Over with Science and Art (SOSA) Oct. 24-25, for students in grades 3-5 who are interested in science or art. The cost for the sleep over is $55 per person and includes; instruction, overnight supervision, materials, snacks and continental breakfast. Participants need to bring sleeping bag, pillow, toothbrush and toothpaste and a jacket. Campers sleep in their own clothes and are separated by gender during the sleep over. Who is your hero?

The American Red Cross is looking for “real heroes,” who live or work in Snohomish County, to honor at the Real Heroes Breakfast in December. Grand Gala

Friday evening, Dec. 5, will be a “Grand Gala” with wine, cheese, hors d’oeuvres and wonderful Christmas music for entertainment in a beautiful festive environment. $35. This is the event were the Festival of Tree trees will be auctioned off. Saturday, Dec. 6, bring the family and view all the beautiful decorated trees.
