ARLINGTON — The Arlington United Church commemorates the 100th anniversary of its current building’s dedication at 338 N. Macleod Ave. in Arlington on the evening of Saturday, Aug. 31, and the morning of Sunday, Sept. 1. Pastor Deena Jones will lead the Sunday morning worship, and both current and former members are welcome to join those with a connection to the historical church in attending and celebrating a full century of ministry in Arlington.

The Arlington church building was dedicated on Sept. 1, 1913, as a congregational church. At the time, the street on which the church is located was a road used to skid logs to a mill at the base of the hill. The Arlington United Church building has been in continual use by the same congregation for longer than any other church building in Arlington.

On Aug. 31, guests are invited to dinner at 5 p.m. — RSVP to 360-435-3259 if you plan to attend — along with a “sharing and singing program,” the singing of which will be provided by the Arlington United Church Choir, with the sharing of recollections about the church and its role in the community to be inspired by displays of memorabilia about the early church and the general period in which it was built.

On Sept. 1, the Sunday morning worship service will commence at 10:15 a.m. — including music by the Aylesworth Family Singers, the Arlington United Church Praise Band, and the church’s organist and pianist — with a potluck to follow.
