ARLINGTON — An Arlington woman recently went past the century mark.

Henrietta “Edith” Kitzman celebrated her 100th birthday on Wednesday, April 7, with her family at Regency Care Center.

“It’s great having everybody around for her special day,” said her son, Art Kitzman.

Henrietta Kitzman, who is of German descent, was born in 1910 to George and Henrietta Heimbigner in Frank, Russia.

She came to the United States shortly after her third birthday in 1913 by boarding a ship in Germany.

The family docked in Baltimore, Md., in May 1913.

Kitzman married Arthur Henry Kitzman in Greeley, Colo., on Dec. 31, 1931. The couple had two children — Dolores Thornhill and Art Kitzman.

Henrietta Kitzman worked at Sears Roebuck in Tacoma for 29 years in men’s retail. Her daughter-in-law, Cookie Kitzman, said Henrietta Kiztman even did some modeling when she was younger.

Henrietta Kitzman’s husband, Art Sr., died on Nov. 5, 2000.

In addition to her son, Art Jr., she has five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren — many of which were in attendance for her birthday party in Arlington.

“This is a very important to Henrietta,” Cookie Kitzman said. “It has always been her goal to live to 100.”

Regency Care Center is located at 620 Hazel Street, Arlington.
