ARLINGTON – Mike Shierk has been named state Cross Country Coach of the Year for 3A boys by the coaches’ association.

Approximately 1,400 coaches gathered for a coach’s clinic Jan. 16-17 at the Everett Civic Auditorium. The Coaches of the Year were announced then.

Shierk said he was honored, but feels the success of the Arlington High School team is a team effort, citing the other coaches: Jon Murray, Allison Piccolo and Becca Harkavy.

“It really is a team effort on the part of all of our coaches, parents and the students,” he said.

The team won regionals and placed fourth at state.
