City of Arlington readies for holidays

The city’s annual Hometown Holiday parade is scheduled to take place Dec. 5 in downtown Arlington.

ARLINGTON — The city’s annual Hometown Holiday parade is scheduled to take place Dec. 5 in downtown Arlington.

Participants line up for the parade at 11:30 a.m. on North Olympic Avenue after registering.

Sarah Hegge, city of Arlington recreation manager, said that parade members must bring a can of food for the food bank in order to march. Registration can be done in advance or before the parade.

At noon, the parade begins, with Santa Claus leading the way.

Immediately following the parade, participants are encouraged to meet at Legion Park, where organizers will light the city Christmas tree.

Santa Claus will be on hand from 1-3 p.m. at the park’s gazebo. Free covered wagon rides, sponsored by the Downtown Arlington Business Association, will also be available from 1-5 p.m.

Christmas music from Victorian singers and the Arlington High School band will take place until 7 p.m.

Wagon rides are also scheduled for Dec. 12 and 19 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
