City offers classes

The city of Arlington is offering a variety of classes. To pre-register for classes, call 360-403-3448.

n Jan. 7-Feb. 25, 6:45-7:30 p.m. — Tiger Family Martial Arts Program: The eight-week program teaches the kicks of tae kwon do, the basic moves of karate and the stances of kung fu with bag kicking and padded sword fighting for fun.

Beginners’ classes last 45 minutes, while classes for those with colored belts last longer for more advanced skills.

Class is for ages 4 and up — all skill levels and abilities welcome.

Session also includes a T-shirt for first-time students (excluding four-week class).

Instructor: Mitch Mayberry. Classes take place at the old Arlington High School, 135 French Ave. Cost is $80 plus Amateur Athletic Union fee to instructor of $12 for youth, $14 for adult.

n Jan. 30, 9 a.m.-noon — Gluten-free Baking: A three-hour class that will introduce participants to gluten-free flours and other necessary ingredients common to gluten-free baking.

The class is designed to those who have family or friends who can’t have foods with gluten.

Instructor Sandy Nelson will create and share some of her favorite recipes including pizza crust, tortillas and cookies.

Class attendees interested in making sugar-free recipes should indicate when registering.

Fee is $45 (includes food supply fee). Class takes place in the community room at the Arlington Boys & Girls Club, 18513 59th Ave. NE, Arlington.
