County holds H1N1 flu clinics, schedules additional dates

The Snohomish Health District offered H1N1 vaccination clinics at nine county locations for young children and pregnant women on Saturday, Oct. 24.

SNOHOMISH COUNTY — The Snohomish Health District offered H1N1 vaccination clinics at nine county locations for young children and pregnant women on Saturday, Oct. 24.

The county department held vaccinations at a number of north county locations, including Cascade Valley Smokey Point Clinic in Arlington, The Everett Clinic at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Marysville and the Tulalip Health Clinic in Tulalip.

At the clinics, children ages 2 through 4 received FluMist nasal spray vaccinations. Pregnant women, infants aged six months to 2 years and children six months to 4 years who have chronic health conditions received an injectable vaccination, according to release from the county health district.

Snohomish County received 16,700 doses of vaccine for the first round of vaccinations, said Dr. Gary Goldbaum, health officer and director of Snohomish Health District.

“As additional doses arrive in the county, the health district will expand the eligibility requirements,” he said.

About 5,000 doses were given countywide on Oct. 24, said Chris Badger, Arlington community emergency management coordinator.

“Some clinics initially had wait times, but as the day went on most did not and people were pleasantly surprised to be able to walk right in or have a short wait,” Badger said in an e-mail.

Badger said the SnoCoFlu.com Web site received more than 12,000 hits on Oct. 24 alone and 170 calls were made to the county’s flu line.

Additional clinics are scheduled for Oct. 31, Nov. 2, Nov. 7 and Nov. 14.

The following locations will be offering vaccinations from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. unless otherwise noted.
